Entering the 2015 indoor track & field season, the men’s indoor collegiate pole vault record was 19-2¼ (5.85m) by Jacob Davis of Texas, and had been since 1999. The 19 foot barrier had only been broken by five collegiate men, and only one in the past 15 years. Akron’s Shawn Barber has changed all of that. He’s surpassed Davis’ record height three times and cleared 19-feet-plus on six occasions, most recently this past weekend with a new collegiate record 19-4¼ (5.90m) at the Arkansas Tyson Invitational.
